Responsible Care Initiative

Montgomery Chemicals is a three-year participant in the Responsible Care® initiative, a global chemical industry performance program administered in the U.S. by the American Chemistry Council.

Since 1988 members of the American Chemistry Council have significantly improved their environmental, health, safety, and security performance through the Responsible Care initiative.

As part of their commitment to Responsible Care, all ACC members have made CEO-level commitments to uphold these program elements:

• Measuring and publicly reporting performance
• Implementing the Responsible Care Security Code
• Applying the modern Responsible Care management system to achieve and verify results
• Obtaining independent certification that a management system is in place and functions according to professional standards

Most recent data demonstrate that Responsible Care companies have:

• Achieved a worker safety record four and a half times better than the average of the U.S. manufacturing sector and twice as safe as the business of chemistry overall; safety performance has improved by an additional 10% between 2003 and 2004; 
• Reduced releases to the environment by more than 75 percent while U.S. chemical production increased by 29 percent; 
• Reduced reportable distribution incidents by 27 percent while the volume of chemical shipments increased 11 percent;
• Completed 100 percent of their security vulnerability assessments, and 98 percent have completed verification of security enhancements at chemical facilities; and
• Reduced process safety incidents by 37 percent over the past decade.
